Vacationing Home Security Tips

It is vacation time again and once again you will fret the entire time you are vacationing, why because you are worried about the security of your home. Most burglaries will occur when the homeowners and the family are not at home, when a home is empty for even a day or two it can become quite apparent that know one is at home. You can keep your peace of mind while you are on vacation with some simple little precautions to help maximize your chances of not becoming a victim to a burglary.

Of course we all know the most common tips to do before going on vacation: a) stop your mail from being delivered, b) stop your newspaper, and c) have one of your neighbors pick up your mail, d) than you lock the doors and windows and leave a few lights burning. These are the ordinary techniques’ people use and they can be improved upon.

When you stop your newspaper from being delivered, it could just indict that you canceled your subscription, that would not seem usual. Having all your mail stopped being delivered can also be a sign to thieves that you are away. They know that everyone receives some sort of mail, even if it is junk mail. It is much better to have your mail picked up on some daily bases by a neighbor. The neighbor can than take the mail inside your house and than can leave by a back door.

Having lights burning is ok, except leaving it on continuously will not look natural, but it will look arranged and fake. Having an uncomplicated security timer that can turn the lights off in the day time and turning them on at night will aid in the natural look of your home. To make it even better you can have a timer that will turn the lights on and off several times at night, simulating you home use. You can also add your television or a radio on a home security timer.

There is no time like the present to start looking into the many home security systems. With a vacation in the future you might want to consider investing in a home security system. Give yourself satisfactory time to look at the many different security systems that are on the market today and choose the right system the fits your needs. Be sure you purchase a system that will monitor your home frequently and makes available neighborhood surveillance by your residence.

If you decide on getting a home security system, make sure to give notice and dates that you are planning to be gone. Most of these security companies will give closer attention knowing that there will be no one home.

You may want to write a congenial letter to the manager of operations, thanking them before you leave, letting them know how much you appreciate their service, and for the first time in years your cans enjoy your vacation for the first time in years. This could help in getting additional service while you are on your vacation.

There is one other method of a home security system you could use and that is maybe the most beneficial all that is to hire yourself a house sitter. They can stay at your home for the entire time or just for a period of the time. This option can add to the cost of your vacation, but knowing a person is in the house, especially during the night, can guard against all but a limit number of thieves. You may be able to work out a deal by asking a friend, relative, or a neighbor to cover your home while on vacation, than in turn watch their home when they are vacationing. If there, is a neighborhood watch program near your house let them know of your vacation plans.

So plan ahead, get your home security system and enjoy that vacation with peace of mind.
