Is it Worth Moving with Your Employer

by L.Buckley

You have just been informed that your current employer has handed you a promotion or the company is relocating to cut operation costs. Now what do you do. this could be a easy decision for some but for others their is a lot to consider other than yourself. If your employer offers to take you along, you must decide if you would rather relocate or look for a new job.

Moving and relocating comes with its own set of worries and change that not only effects you but the entire family. This goes as far down to the pets. Everyone is so familiar with their own surroundings and all that will be disrupted. You need to seriously consider what the cost of living will be like in this new city, job opportunities for your spouse and finally what is the quality of life like there?

You may have many reasons for wanting to leave your current home, but it’s not just like you can pick up and go. You’ll have to find a job in your new home. Before you make your final decision to relocate, here are some questions you should ask yourself. The question of the ages at this point is should I stay or should I go? You are far better off if you have options than someone that is being forced into the situation.

if you find that you really have no choice but to take that job promotion or if because your entire company is relocating then you should look into what resources are available to help you find what living is like where you will be going to. There is nothing worse than moving to a new city and not knowing what it is about.

Finally, it doesn’t matter if you relocate to DC, Seattle or NYC that job will now be located in a whole new city. You must pick up your family, find a home, find schools for your children and move to a strange place. This will be a very strange and stressful time for everyone involved. try to be understanding and patient with everyone involved.
