It is so nice to decorate a child’s room and make it suitable for the kid’s age. Transforming a rather plain room into a bright, happy area for your child will mark his special place in the house. A wonderful alternative to expensive children’s decors are colorful area rugs.

With most children, a favorite character, star, or pastime is constantly changing. While it is difficult to change a wallpaper border or mural at the drop of a hat, a new themed area rug can let your child show what some of their favorite things are. Simply roll up the old one and lay down the new.

There are area rugs made especially for children. The designs, materials and colors are for children’s delight. There are also different themes to meet children’s imagination and creativity. Some have construction site and neighborhood themes complete with the trucks, buildings, houses and tree-lined streets. Other rugs are filled with shapes, numbers and cartoon characters. The list of choices is endless and all are assuredly fun for children’s finicky tastes.

Using multiple area rugs for one room is acceptable. In fact, decorating with several colorful, multi-design ones are pretty to look at. In addition, there are more things to add happiness and fun to the room. You can even have matching curtains or comforters for a more coordinated look.

When you start shopping for an area rug for your child’s room, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. A low pile is important or your children may have a difficult time with some of their rolling toys, such as trucks or balls. Dirt is also an issue for most kids, so a low pile is much easier to vacuum. You can easily pull the dirt out of the bottom of the area rug much more easily. Choose a pile that is less than a third of an inch or so. Most area rugs with this low pile will also be very durable.

As far as the material that is used, choose one that is stain resistant, such as nylon or polpropylene. You can add a stain treatment to these rugs without damaging them. This will help keep the rug looking new longer.

Area rugs are a terrific accent for any child’s room. You can find many different designs and colors. There are some great learning patterns and games on many of the rugs. Some children will love themes of Disney, sports, Barbie, and many other characters. You can often find floorings that will match bedding sets and curtains. Make sure it is something your child won’t quickly grow out of or you could be changing it often.

Try decorating with area rugs for your child’s room and you might just find yourself doing the same for the entire house. Who knows, area rugs can also be his constant companion as he goes into his teen years. The area rugs can grow and change with him as well.
