Question by Daisy: How do I measure out 75ml and 30ml without a measuring jug?
I don’t have a measuring jug to hand. Does anyone have any useful tips on how I can measure out 75ml and 30ml using other kitchen utensils? Thanks.

US kitchen?
1 tablespoon is about 15 mL, so those are 2 T, and 5 T.
But perhaps UK, as “measuring jug” is new to me??
In that case you have to find something with a known volume. A can of peas, a can of cola, orange juice, something with a measurement on it.

High-quality tape measure,
Like many tape measures, this one does the job. Some things I noted:
o The Self-Lock feature means that the tape does not retract on its own. You must press the yellow button on the top-front to retract the tape. Komelon cautions not to retract the tape at full speed to the end. This will cause the hook to impact the case, which will probably eventually break its attachment.
o The self-lock is sometimes a welcome feature and sometimes not. All in all, I like it; I don’t have to fight my tape measure while trying to mark something, nor do I have to engage (and later disengage) a separate locking mechanism.
o The tape itself appears to be well made. It has a matte finish and won’t reflect as much as a shiny one. There are markings for each inch on the bottom and feet+inch markings on the top. Each eighth inch is labeled as well. (I was hoping for labels for each sixteenth, but didn’t get them.) Large arrows mark each foot, and there are red highlights every sixteen inches. The last foot has red “Caution” labels.
o The hook attachment is impressive. There is a reinforcing piece of metal riveted to the bottom of the tape and the hook is riveted to both it and the tape itself. It has the standard movement back and forth to allow inside or outside measurements.
o The case is plastic, which keeps the weight down. The black part is rubber, or something like it, which helps you keep your grasp on it. It’s a large case, but the tape is 25 feet long and one inch wide. I weighed mine on a postal scale and got 14.8 ounces.
Overall, this seems like a quality tape measure that should last quite a while and be a pleasure to use.

Outstanding Tape Measure,
I absolutely love this tape measure. I have never really understood the SAE measure system and struggle with counting up the increments of 1/4″ vs 5/8″ etc, I was looking for a quality tape measure that marked the sub-increments. This tape measure marks the sub-increments down to 1/8″ increments, with hash marks down to the 1/16″.
PROs:
Quality Construction
Solidly attached end clip
Strong thick steel tape
Rubberized shock resistant exterior
1/8″ increments marked along entire tape
Self locking mechanism
CONs:
None

Changed my mind about Stanley …,
I was sold on Stanley tapes until I bought this one. I had THREE Stanley powerlocks, but if you work for a living, you know how the darn things have legs. Somehow, all three disappeared, and I had to buy new ones. I decided to shop on line for them instead of going to the store, and these popped up on my search. I decided to give them a try based on other peoples’ reviews, and I’m glad I did. The automatic lock feature is great, they’re physically smaller that a Stanley (pay no attention to the ridiculous dimensions in the description … they include the packaging) and the tape itself is much nicer. The graduations are clear and well labelled, with stud markers and foot indications. If you’ve never used one of these, give them a try. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I know I was …

As was already suggested … use a known standard … if it’s in ounces .. then cross reference to metric …. If you have a ruler (known standard) , you don’t need a 75 ml or 30 ml beaker ….
