Attached to my cheap Chicago Electric multi-tool, it’s slicing through carpet easily. I won’t say “effortlessly”, but it’s far faster than a manual carpet knife would be, and needs less physical effort.

On plush carpet, it’s working best using the larger curve of the hook and pulling sideways or towards the user. Pushing away with the smaller blade doesn’t always catch the backing correctly.

UPDATE: The easiest way, after you have enough carpet free to roll it towards you, is to rest the larger hook blade on the carpet backing and keep pulling carpet towards you. Don’t apply much force, let the vibration of the blade do the work of cutting through the backing.

Saved me time, June 11, 2013

I’m renovating the rooms in my house. All rooms have wall to wall carpet. I was cutting the perimeter with a razor knife to expose & remove the tackless strips and leave the rest of the carpet to serve as a drop cloth. The razor knife got the job done; however, cutting was tough from the pile side. I ordered the multiknife hoping to make the cutting job easier.
Bottom line, I wish I had the blade from the beginning. It eliminates the effort needed to cut the carpet; straight cuts are easy because your not pulling the knife; and it is so much faster to complete the cutting.
    Recommended.
