Question by baby l♥ve: When should the midwife first start measuring your uterus?
Sorry if I sound naive but…
I see here all the time about how big people are measuring etc, well I am 28w6d and my uterus, or how big I am (correct term?) has not been measured once.
When I go to my appointment, all the midwife does is listen to the baby’s heartbeat, take my blood pressure and feel my stomach.
Should I be worried that I haven’t been measured? She has told me the baby is growing fine though, but how can she tell that without measuring?
Thanks ladies =)

When she presses on your stomach she is also feeling where your uterus is growing meaning if it is growing at the rate a 29 weeks uterus should be. At your next appointment she should be measuring with the tape and everything.

To measure they normally take a tape measure and place from your pubic bone to he top of your tummy where they feel the uterus. If she is feeling your stomach she may be doing just that.
She must be doing something.
Its not an internal measure or any thing.
Congrats!
Nope nothing to worry about.
In my whole pregnancy I’ve only been measured once. My midwife doesn’t think it’s necessary as there can be so many variables, your size, how many children you have, and not to mention the size of bubby.
Basically they can check progress without having to measure, your uterus should increase by finger widths each 4 weeks….until 36-40 weeks, then they are the same, as bub usually drops down between this time.
Relax your baby is fine.
I had my first measurements done at my 28 week midwife appointment. She will probably do yours at your next one. Mine was 30cm at 27 weeks, eek! I’m growing a huge baby! My hubby is 6’2″ and 16 stone so i hope that doesn’t have any bearing on it! The measurement in cm should be the same as the amount of weeks you are give or take a cm or so.
Hope all is going well with your pregnancy xx
I got measured for the first time at my last appointment :]
I was 28 weeks 6 days. Mine was measuring only just 28cm.
Anytime now you will probably start to be measured ^_^
