I bought this for use on our houseboat. We already have several Porter-Cable cordless tools which are all high quality products. It is easy to add to the set once you have the battery packs. We have used the grinder several times already and it works with ease…perfect for our purpose of not wanting to worry with stringing an electric cord and yet have a tool that can handle a variety of jobs on a boat.

It’s not the prettiest angle grinder available, but, it does the job when you need it.

I had been a Hitachi cordless tool, but, Hitachi doesn’t seem to have a master plan; meaning they don’t have a line of tools that fit a particular battery (it seems hit or miss), and, they are expensive. Porter Cable, on the other hand, has nicely created an 18v battery system that can be used on multiple tools (their website lists them all and Lowes carries most of their line). I have nearly all of their cordless tools in this line and they are competent. I would rate the overall quality of their entire tool line a 4 out of 5 and the value a 5+. Excellent Harry Homeowner that doesn’t want to break the bank for occasional use of these tools when needed. I also suspect they’d hold their own to the pro that uses them daily as well.

By the way, Porter Cable’s customer service is excellent. I had a battery issue that seemingly wouldn’t charge. They replaced it with no questions asked. For what it’s worth, I later discovered the battery may not have been bad after all. As it turns out, if you attempt to charge a COLD battery (as in left in cold garage during the winter months), the charger will indicate that the battery is defective. Solution: let it sit inside until it reaches room temperature and then try charging. A minor quirk but it hasn’t been an issue for me since I now just keep the batteries inside (where they should be anyway to prevent premature discharge).
