Heavy Duty Bases are designed to give you a stable and mobile platform upon which to mount machinery and equipment having a variety of sizes and weights. The heavy-duty casters are arranged on outriggers allowing the machine to sit as low as possible and yet be extremely stable. Swivel casters on two corners provide excellent maneuverability. The bolt pattern on the fixed caster side allows orientation of the wheels in either of two directions. The base can be assembled in any of eight configurations providing maximum flexibility of use. The unique two piece retractable feet use rare earth magnets to allow the knob to turn while the foot pad i s tight to the floor. You will find these mobile bases to be far superior to any on the market in strength, adjustability and movability. This patented mobile base is the most stable on the market with outrigger type supports. Adjusts from 18-1/2 x 24-1/2 to 28-1/2 x 33-1/2. 1300 lb. Capacity. Weighs 61 lbs.Specif

Flexible Design but Undersized, February 7, 2012

My biggest complaint with this base is the casters. They’re made from hard, painted steel which doesn’t feel cheap but they don’t roll well at all on bare concrete. Even the smallest of wood fibers will cause the wheels to lockup and slide rather than roll, quickly stripping the paint from the casters and leaving a nice mark on your floor.

I have doubts that this mobile base would stand up to the load it is rated at. I have only a 300 pound load and find that the four corner pads are already sagging as well as it is already very difficult to roll. I attribute this fact to the casters as well, since I have another smaller Shop Fox base that has a variant of plastic casters that works quite well. One of my casters was over tightened at the factory but was easily fixed.

I also feel that the base is a little undersized in terms of the capacity it can handle. However, I also understand the logic behind the footprint, as if it were larger, it wouldn’t be able to hold smaller, heavy tools, such as shapers and what not. I had to purchase the 36″ extension bars to mount a drum sander. If you too need extension bars, the only compatible kit is part number D2246A. The A is very critical, as part D2246 will not function correctly.

The best characteristic of this base is the fact you can dial the base into any width or length you need, which provides a very snug fit. You might have to cut the bars to get a good fit though. Also, seeing as how the casters barely want to roll when you’re pushing it, after you’ve used the pads, the base is very solid and does not move at all during operation.

I gave Shop Fox D2058A mobile base an average review of 3 stars due to its inability to be agile when moving a fairly lightweight tool, combined with the aspect that I had to pay an additional 40% premium to purchase two extension bars. This part is the same as Grizzly’s part G7315Z.

I purchased the Shop Fox 2058A mobile base in March 2013 and this is a great mobile base. At the time of my purchase the only review I could find was the Feb 2012 review on Amazon. I was a bit concerned after reading this review. I couldn’t understand how the mobile base could perform as that review suggested. It just did not make sense. I then contacted a retailer of the mobile base and they said that Shop Fox stands behind their products. So I decided to purchase the 2058A. I have a 900lb Hammer A341 Jointer/Planer on the 2058A. The steel wheels work great. the corner pads DO NOT sag. I love how I can move my machine around in my basement. I highly recommend it.

It’s stable, secure, reasonably priced. I have a 1000 lb 12 inch Poitras jointer on it, and it works well.
