Question by Mike M: How to compare power of corded tools vs. cordless?
What specs should I look at to see whether a 9 amp corded reciprocating saw or an 18 volt cordless saw is more powerful? Both have 3,000 strokes per minute. Is there a spec I can look at to see which should be more powerful?

Answer by Marduk
I have both and use the cordless more often. Only thing is I use mine for household chores not a professional setting. If you are going to use as professional I would go for the corded. Batteries aren’t cheap and cut into profit.

I had bought a craftsman professional air angle impact and it was just slow. Then I saw this one from Makita and decided to give it a try. I’m very impressed with thing. It’s way faster and just as powerful as the craftsman. Plus it’s more maneuverable and has a better reach. This is just the ticket for hard to reach nuts and bolts like headers and transmission work.

Purchased this tool to complement the Makita Line-Up of 18 volt tools I already have of theirs. Makita is my go to tool for the Handyman business I operate. Makita is a tool that is always reliable and tough and will see you through the most demanding job. I will always be a fan of Makita products.

typically corded tools have more horsepower and battery tools have more torque but over all the corded tool will have more power.

If you want to get more specific you’ll need the voltage and amperage of both tools, and the power factor of the corded tool, voltage x amperage = DC watts, voltage x amperage x power factor = AC watts.
