I had previously purchased a DeWalt 20V MAX 4-piece combo kit. I was not at all impressed. I’m not reviewing that, so won’t go into the details.
I purchased this kit next, and the difference was night and day! I’m old-school (okay, maybe just old), and still ascribe to the theorem that the heft of a tool is a general indication of its’ quality :p I am NOT a Tradesman, and wouldn’t have to use these tools all day long, so arm fatigue isn’t an issue. The general heft of these tools is VERY pleasing in the hand! I have only used them very lightly so far, so can’t speak about how long the battery lasts, etc……but every facet so far inspires confidence in the quality of these tools. They feel so solid in fact, I FEEL like I could use the Hammerdrill as an actual hammer! Wait, forget I said that……
You can’t tell from pictures, but all that grey you see is NOT decorative. That all is rubberized armor. Yeah, again, it feels tough.
The circular saw is the full 7 1/4″ blade you only see on Corded saws. Until now. Normal Cordless saws use a smaller 6 1/2″ blade. My biggest peeve with this kit is that the circular saw blade guard is plastic! That is the only change I’d make to this kit, putting a nice cast aluminum guard on there.
The Impact and the Hammerdrill both have LED lighting built into the CHUCK! The lighting is always exactly where you’re working, with no shadows making the job more difficult. It’s an ingenious feature that after seeing it work, I have to wonder why noone (apparently) thought of it until now. The Hammerdrill is the workhorse of this kit, with a myriad of clutch settings, etc.
The light is….well, it’s a light. It does its’ job ;p
The sawzall DEFINITELY needs 2 hands to operate, it’s quite heavy. LOL and I like that it could substitute as a Sci-Fi lazer cannon on a low budget movie set :p
The other set I considered was the 6-tool Milwaukee 18V FUEL set. But it was SO expensive, I had to give this set a chance at less than half the cost…….and I’m glad I did!
I was looking for a tool set that would last me a lifetime of household use, and this kit suits those parameters perfectly. Ridgid’s Lifetime Service Agreement warranty upgrade is just what it sounds like……lifetime warranty for ALL the components of this kit! That DOES INCLUDE both the batteries!! That fact right there is unheard of, and reason enough to jump on this kit.
I wanted a Contractor quality kit, but for personal home use. And I firmly believe that’s exactly what I got.
