I like to show off in the kitchen. As food and beverage are very intimate to us human beings, it stands to reason that the ability to prepare them is a gateway to someone’s soul. So I make it a point to have my friends stay by the counter when they visit, chatting while I do my thing.

The grout cleaning is a necessity that many of us would have to contend with. Like me, you might be reasonably irritated at the prospect of kneeling down and scrubbing in between tiles. Unfortunately, not liking it does not mean that it can be ignored. Unhindered, grout becomes a breeding ground for many antagonistic organisms, most notably the dreaded black mold.

One simple fact propels the grout cleaning industry: People want to live in a clean, hygienic environment, but unfortunately cannot be bothered to do it themselves. So either a housekeeper has to do it for them, or hire professionals to do the work for them.

Cleaning the grout in your shower is an important hygienic ritual in any home. Left untended, grout absorbs the dirty substances around it, and in effect it becomes a breeding ground for various bacteria. If you’re wondering why you’re always sick, even if you maintain proper hygienic practices, then perhaps your bathroom grout is being ignored. Perhaps black mold is already growing in your bathroom.

The advent of the TV was flanked by the new medium by which various producers have used to peddle their wares. In particular, household problems like grout-cleaning have received special attention. Many products appeared, aiming at housewives who did not want to spend too much time on such a difficult but unspectacular chore.

I am not a housekeeper. Never was, never will be. Ever since I was a small tyke, my mother always tried to make me tidy up my room. I was only occasionally convinced to do so even then, either by candy bribery or by the threat of having my assets, ie, my allowance, frozen. My mother, sweet blessed lady, rarely resorted to such extremes, and so I ended up cleaning my room for about twice a year at maximum.

Let’s face it; the grout in between the tiles receives very little everyday attention. Despite the potential dangers that I have described in previous articles, the space they occupy is just so small. Many brave it and put it off for a day or two, until the time comes when it becomes so impossibly dirty, total regrouting is required.
