Pretty Nice Set!, February 19, 2014

This is a nice Black and Decker combo tool set, which includes a drill/driver, circular saw, recap saw, flashlight, and two 20 volt lithium batteries. Everything fits neatly (although a bit tightly) into a zippered storage bag.

We own the corded (and bigger) versions of all of these tools, and while the cordless versions aren’t as powerful, they get the job of most household tasks done. It’s so much easier not to have cords in the way, and not to drag out extension cords for every minor repair.

Overall, this is a good kit to have. Recommended!

Great kit that uses the same batteries as my other tools!, but wish the circular saw had a 7.25 inch blade, January 13, 2014

    Black and Decker

The collection is nice and includes the main tools you will need for home repairs. It includes 2 batteries and a charger and the batteries are the normal 20V batteries that most Black and Decker tools use so you can use the batteries with many items; for example, I can use the same batteries with my MATRIX Drill Set, my weedwacker and blower. I do not like the charger that is included with the set, it is small and just slides on to the battery (not the normal one that I have with other tools, like a docking station), I wish they gave the regular one with this kit, since it does not make taking it off and on as easy and convenient (or as clean looking) as the normal charger. The kit includes a carrying case, but it does not hold all the tools, but for a free bag it is not bad for when you have to carry some items to another location, it does zip up which is nice, but does not have any pockets for any blades or tools that you may need.

I will note that all these tools are battery powered, and will not offer as much power as a corded version. However, for quick and small jobs these are great and more convenient than bothering with cables and extension cables. The batteries have a good life (for these types of tools you should be able to finish a small/medium job with no problem) and since you have two batteries you can easily swap them once they die. A nice thing of Lithium is that they are either dead or good, so you do not suffer from weaking performance as the battery runs out, it just stops.

    Reciprocating Saw

The reciprocating saw is nice and has pretty good power for a battery unit, it can cut through most items and includes a general blade (essentialy a wood blade). The blades that this unit uses are standard size so you can easily use blades you already have for other reciprocating saws (metal or wood blades). The unit uses a keyless entry where you just pull up the side part and slide the blade in and it locks it in place. The unit does angle for the blade entry, but it does not lock the angle so you have to make sure to not to push too hard and cause it to change angle. The unit has a light weight for it that is easy to hold and a nice rubber grip for easy holding and non slip usage.

    Light

The light is a basic light and puts off a pretty good amount of light (would light up your work area; not whole area but the point where you are working). It is lightweight and can easily be held in your hand. It has a swivel head for changing the angle which is nice.

    Drill

The drill is a standard drill/driver. It works as expected and is a good drill. It offers nice torque settings and fine controls and is stong enough to get through most jobs (with the right bit). The drill includes a double sided bit (Phillips/Flat) and has a standard clutch for settings to avoid stripping screws. The drill also has a small LED lgiht so you can see what you are drilling. The 20V Lithium battery makes the drill very light and this is great when working on a ladder or above you (my old fat battery weighed my old drill down so my arms would wear out when having to reach to drill), this is super light and makes that a breeze.

    Circular

The circular saw is hiqh quality and has a nice feel to it. It has rubber grippings and feels well made in your hands. The unit does use a smaller blade than other handheld circular saws (5.5 inch blade). This means you cannot use it to cut through too deep of wood, but for small home projects, this should work OK, but I also have a corded circular handheld saw that has a 7.25 inch blade for larger jobs (this also means that if you have some tools aready you most likely do not have any blades that will fit this if you need other teethed blades). It has nice tightening keys on the unit for tightening the angle adjustments so they do not change once they are set and can angle in both directions. It has a hex key (included) that fits in the holder on the front for changing the blade (you just press in the top button and that locks the blade and you use the hex key to take off the blade fastener). A nice feature about this is that when you let go of the trigger the blade stops instantly. My other circular saws spin until their momentum wears off, this one stops suddenly as soon as the trigger is released (a safety feature that is nice).

In the end this is a nice set for the basic DIY person. It offers most items that you need for general work around your home and uses a battery system that is used by all of Black/Decker’s products (I use many of the 20V tools). I wish it came with a better battery charger (or even better two of them, one for each battery). The tools are nice for general work and being cordless is great!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What’s this?)
This is a cordless tool kit for homeowners or tradespeople. Included in the kit are a drill/driver (with basic screwdriver bit), a reciprocating saw (with blade), a circular saw (with blade and wrench), a work light, 2 20V lithium batteries, a battery charger, and a carrying bag. The tools are double insulated with rubber grips, nicely balanced and supply plenty of power to get jobs done. The battery attachments are spring loaded, making it easy to clip the batteries on and off. Each of the tools comes with a 2 year limited warranty.

The drill has a keyless chuck. It has 2 speeds, high and low, with a switch to run forward or reverse. A nice touch is the spot light under the driver, illuminating your work area without the need for a separate light. The reciprocating and circular saws are very easy to handle and cut well. The work light is quite bright; its flat base and pivoting head allows it be used hands free to light up almost any angle. The 2 batteries will get you through a full work day, or even longer if you can get one charging as soon as you put the other one on a tool. Unfortunately, the carrying bag doesn’t have pockets for the blades or other accessories, but it is made of tough polyester fiber and is capacious enough to hold the entire kit, and maybe some more. A further bonus is the bright orange-red color of the tools, making them easy to locate on the worksite. Overall, I’ve found this kit a great addition to my home repair tools. It would make a fine graduation present or house warming gift.
