Great tool but beware – the box says it will take 1/8″ – 1/4″ bits, but a 1/4″ collet is not included and very difficult to source. Makita p/n 763676-1

Speed control would be nice but it still gets 5 stars from me.

OK, but the LXT compatibility is probably the only reason to pick it, September 2, 2015

If working with your other Makita LXT tools is what you want, this tool will work OK. If innovation and improvement over other models is what excites you, keep looking.

Pros: works with LXT batteries, does the job, and uses the same collet cones as RotoZip

Cons: Comes with only 1 size cone, has a separate wrench to keep track of for changing bits (although pliers or a crescent wrench would do), seems bigger and heavier than it should be, and, worst, the guide ring doesn’t slide down far enough to allow the properly seated bit to penetrate 1/2″ drywall and ride on what’s under the drywall. I had to leave the bit sticking far out of the collet, which makes it much more vulnerable to breaking.

Like pretty much all of this type of tool, it’s loud and you’ll get plenty of dust.

I have been collecting Makita cordless tools now for awhile. I have quite the collection. This one is ok. In comparison to my Craftsman “Rotozip” style tool though the only advantage is being cordless. This does not have a variable speed either which I find handy with this type of tool. It seems to work best with drywall.
